Hope Avery Trustee
For me, gardening has always been a valued activity; it’s a place for sharing, learning, physical exercise, and it encompasses all my senses. Living in California for many years was truly an educational experience as many of our friends were involved in agriculture and they shared their knowledge, passion, and struggles. Knowing where your food comes from and how much work it takes to get it to market is of great interest to me. Ideally, everybody should be encouraged to play in the dirt, learn how they can take pride in a garden and acquire lifelong skills.
Hope Avery graduated from Mary C. Wheeler School, Colby Sawyer College and Johnson and Wales Culinary School. In 1983 she moved to Ventura, California with her husband and purchased Open Air Bicycles. Hope pursued her interest in real estate and went on to mentor new agents while maintaining her own clients. She served on the board of directors for County School Credit Union and The Charitable Foundation. For several years she raised puppies for Guide Dogs of America. The drought conditions in California made gardening very challenging and through many of her clients, she was able to learn about large agriculture and farming practices. Now back in her home state, she is currently active with the Bristol R.I. Garden Club serving on several committees. In October, you can find her out planting daffodils for club’s Daffodil Project.
